A quick 30-minute drive from Moose Jaw to Mortlach you will find a little restaurant called the Little Red Market Café. This restaurant features Cajun and Creole comfort food. The restaurant is located in a little red brick building just off of the main road (Rose Street) from Highway #1.
For lunch, I started with New Belgium Fat Tire ale and Soup of the day which as a Pork Mushroom Gumbo – a hearty soup with roasted vegetables in a thick tomato base broth with a hint of spice.
For the main meal, I had the Jambalaya. Jambalaya is a dish of Louisiana origin of Spanish and French influence. Chicken and Andouille sausage with roasted vegetables in tomato and clove scented broth on wild and brown rice with cornbread. The dish was very flavorful with a variety of textures. The rice was perfectly done. The freshly baked cornbread was delicious.
I look forward to returning to this Mortlach gem!
