Chachalacas is a new Mexican cuisine restaurant in Moose Jaw. Located in the old National Cafe (a landmark in Moose Jaw) on the south end of Main Street.
The server brought out freshly cooked corn tortilla chips with pico de gallo. A very nice starter which you are not charged for.
I had the Chimichanga and a side of guacamole. The Chimichanga is a golden deep-fried burrito stuffed with your choice of meat (I had the picadillo – ground beef) chicken or fajita beet, picadillo, pastor or carnitas along with rice, refried beans, and mixed cheese. Topped with jalapeño ranch and served with a salad. A vegetarian option is available. The Chimichanga was really good – refried beans and rice inside were fantastic. I ate about half of the Chimichanga and brought the rest home which was just as good heated up the next day.
I ordered a strawberry margarita which would have been great; however, the drink was rimmed with salt and there was a healthy amount of salt in the drink. This might be the traditional way of making a strawberry margarita; however, I prefer a sugared rim with the sweet taste of strawberries. If it were a lime margarita then salt would have been fine.
I look forward to the next meal at Chachalacas!
